Cruiserweight boxing champion Jai Opetaia has embraced his time in Sāmoa, immersing himself in the local community while on a visit with his mother, partner, and their baby. His stay in the islands is more than just a getaway—it’s a homecoming and an opportunity to give back to the people who have supported his career.

On Monday, Opetaia met with local media at a press conference organized by the Sāmoa Tourism Authority in partnership with Niumedia and Sleeping Giant Films. He shared his excitement about reconnecting with his Sāmoan heritage and giving his family a chance to experience the beauty of the islands for the first time.

While he isn’t planning any rigorous training sessions during his visit, the undefeated champion is making time for light boxing activities and engaging with the next generation of Sāmoan athletes. His focus is on inspiring young people through school visits and interactions with local organizations.

Opetaia emphasized the importance of hard work, telling students that success comes from dedication and perseverance. He hopes that by sharing his journey, he can ignite a sense of belief in them, showing that international success is within reach.

“These kids have the world at their feet,” Opetaia said. “If they see someone like me who has made it to the international stage, it might spark something in them to chase their dreams.”

His community outreach has included visits to Marist Brothers Primary School, Chanel College, and the Seventh Day Adventist School, where he encouraged students through motivational talks and fun training sessions.

“It’s all about having fun, enjoying the moment, and showing these kids that I’m just like them—another person giving it my all,” he said ahead of his visit to Marist Brothers Primary School.

This morning, Opetaia extended his outreach to Sāmoa Victim Support Group, demonstrating his commitment to supporting and uplifting the community.

With an undefeated record of 27 fights—21 of them won by knockout—Opetaia continues to make waves in the boxing world. His most recent victory was against New Zealand’s David Nyika, further solidifying his place among the sport’s elite.

Now, as he spends time in Sāmoa, he is using his platform not just to celebrate his heritage, but to inspire the next generation to dream big and work hard to achieve success.
