MASTERTON: Sāmoa Capital Radio Connects with the Community

Apr 25, 2026 | Media Releases, Niu Sila

Sāmoa Capital Radio continued it’s engagement in the Wairarapa and Masterton region on Saturday 25 April, bringing the SCR team together with members of the community to discuss our programming, services and wider community initiatives.

The engagement was open to the wider Wellington region and provided an opportunity for attendees to meet the SCR team, provide feedback and share their views on the programmes and content that are important to them.

Connecting with the Wairarapa Community

The Wairarapa and Masterton area forms part of the wider Wellington region served by Sāmoa Capital Radio. SCR maintains connections with Pacific communities across the region through its radio broadcasting, social media platforms and community engagement activities.

Many listeners in the Wairarapa connect with SCR through our social media platforms, providing access to our programmes, information and community content beyond our FM broadcast coverage.

In parts of the Wairarapa, SCR’s 106.1FM broadcast can also be received in limited locations. Our community engagement in Masterton provided an opportunity to connect with listeners and community members directly and to strengthen relationships with the Pacific community in the Wairarapa.

The Masterton engagement also enabled SCR to hear directly from community members about their interests, information needs and views on our programming.

Community Engagement

Community feedback is an important part of SCR’s ongoing work. The Masterton engagement provided an opportunity for direct discussion with community members and for SCR to hear their views, ideas and interests.

The engagement focused on:

  • SCR programming and content
  • Health information and community awareness
  • Education and information sharing
  • Sāmoan language retention and the GS App
  • Access to SCR through radio and digital platforms
  • Opportunities for ongoing community engagement across the Wairarapa

The event also provided an opportunity for SCR to share information about its work in the areas of health, education and Sāmoan language retention, including the role of the GS App in supporting access to Sāmoan language resources.

Music and Community

Laumua Sound provided live entertainment during the event, performing a selection of classic Sāmoan music and Pacific favourites.

A shared meal was also provided, allowing attendees and the SCR team to continue discussions and engage in an informal community setting.
