Tuia Pu’a Fuatogi Letoa projected to win Safata 2 by-election

Sāmoa Capital Radio projects the Safata 2 parliamentary by-election to be won by FAST Party candidate Tuia Pu’a Fuatogi Letoa after preliminary results gave the candidate an unassailable lead over the remaining field.
Preliminary figures show Tuia Pu’a Fuatogi Letoa on 820 votes, ahead of Leleua Suataga Aso with 551, while Toleafoa Losalia Sagalala Niumata has received 105 votes.
The call comes despite two voting booths—the Special Booth (SBS01 Savai’i) and Wednesday’s pre-poll booth (2.1.7 Vaie’e)—remaining outstanding at the time of publication. Based on the current margin, the remaining ballots are not expected to alter the outcome.
According to the Office of the Electoral Commission (OEC), 1,920 voters were registered for the by-election, with 1,571 votes cast, representing a voter turnout of 82 percent.
Results published by the OEC and tallied by Sāmoa Capital Radio account for 1,476 votes, leaving 95 votes from the Special Booth (SBS01 Savai’i) and Wednesday’s pre-poll booth (2.1.7 Vaie’e) yet to be released. Even if all 95 outstanding votes were cast for the second-placed candidate, they would not be enough to overturn Tuia Pu’a Fuatogi Letoa’s 269-vote lead, allowing Sāmoa Capital Radio to confidently call the election.
The results remain preliminary and are subject to change until the official count is completed and the outcome is formally declared by the Office of the Electoral Commission.
Sāmoa Capital Radio will continue to monitor the count and provide updates as official results become available.
